Help for Robocall Victims

category: Politricks

Robocalls

Are you tired of being abused by people who say they need you? Healthy communication is often one of the first casualties of slimy politics, not only for political robocall recipients, but for everyone around them.

But, now you have help. You can stop political phone calls and seize control over the political discussion in your household and beyond. Sign up today at Stop Political Phone Calls, sponsored by Citizens for Civil Discourse. You’ll be glad you did.

UPDATE:  The Obama campaign has launched Under the Radar, a site that allows users to report negative or smear ads and Robocalls. These calls target voters by demography or geography, and the map helps viewers to understand the targeted areas and the messages that are targeted to those areas. Of course, this site also provides information that repudiates the information in those Robocalls.

The Skewed PBS Palin Poll

category: News, Politricks

A friend tossed a link out for the PBS Palin poll yesterday, a poll that asked, “Do you think Sarah Palin is qualified to serve as Vice President of the United States?” My friend was curious, as the poll was trending wildly to “yes,” even though we figured (by trying) that the same voter could not vote more than once. Another friend asked how that poll trend could be possible. I found my answer in yesterday’s email through a spam note left eight days ago by an acquaintance who resides in Virginia:

Please read:

PBS wants to ’show the world’ that Sarah Palin is not qualified. They are taking an ‘unscientific’ poll and will then use it to make their point. To achieve their goal, they have turned to their viewers who are about 80% liberal.

Let’s provide them with a result they did not expect.  Send this email to every non-liberal you know.  Let’s get some balance into this survey group.  This is the easiest vote you will ever make. It takes literally two seconds.

Let’s turn this around!!!

Here’s the link: http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html

AFTER YOU PARTICIPATE, FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO YOUR LIST OF PEOPLE, ASK THEM TO VOTE AND THEN ASK THEM TO FORWARD IT ON TO THEIR E-MAIL LISTS.  LET’S SHOW PBS WHAT REAL AMERICANS THINK!

Note the use of “Real Americans” in the end game paragraph. I never paid attention to the email until I was ready to purge my mailbox.  I think this email answers a few questions about polls, skewing, and the “Real American” initiative.

UPDATE: I find it funny that this person assumed I was “non-liberal.” That person obviously doesn’t know me very well, or is accustomed to operating on assumptions.
