Bush currently is holding a press conference, where he is Democrat-bashing, chuckling at his own bad jokes, and demeaning the American public in general. But, before you feel offended, consider the source. When asked if he thought that offshore drilling will damage reefs, Bush replied that technology exists today that will spare the reefs. Drillers can bypass the reefs and drill “horizontal holes” that will spare those delicate eco-structures.
While horizontal holes might work for the Alaska pipeline, I have a difficult time imagining horizontal holes in the ocean that won’t disturb reef structures. Vertical holes, maybe, but not horizontal. Amazingly, none of the press in attendance questioned Bush’s logic. Perhaps they were asleep.

The G8 summit always has been a thorn in the side, especially when they commit to half-baked efforts and complete few if any of their egoistic goals. But, this time the G8 has taken the cake. No - they’ve taken the smoked salmon, “Winter lily bulb and summer savoury,” tuna (not albacore - too much mercury), shiso in jellied clam sauce and more in a menu fit for kings while they discuss world food shortages. They, like Marie Antoinette, are handing the cake to the masses while they feast on cheese, lavender honey and caramelised nuts, washed down with Le Reve Grand Cru Brut.
We found one of the items on the menu ironic - the G8 group recognized the importance of the sustainable use of biofuels, but they didn’t outline how they would address criticisms over soaring food prices by using corn and other crops to make fuels. Yet this group accepted a “corn and caviar” dish for dinner.
Are the rich really that insensitive, or merely stupid?
