Some horrible news broke out of Graves County, Kentucky last week, where police seized 72 dogs and found about 20 more pit bulls at a separate location. All of the dogs were signed over to the Mayfield-Graves County Animal Shelter. Many of the dogs were emaciated and covered with scars from head to toe from dog fights.
In a separate incident in McCracken County, Kentucky, authorities investigated reports about dead pit bulls being thrown off a bridge over Clarks River. Police found the carcasses of eleven dogs that had been shot in the head.
The Humane Society is offering a reward on an arrest and conviction for animal cruelty and dog fighting. There is a $2500 reward for an arrest and conviction for Cruelty to Animals. There’s $5000 reward for arrest and conviction for Dog Fighting. Rescue groups have been called in from across the midwest to take the dogs and to try to find them all safe homes.
The Mayfield-Graves County Shelter staff, director, board members, volunteers, county animal control officer, and local veterinarians have worked tirelessly around the clock since this happened to try and get these dogs patched and calmed. They have received a great deal of donated food, but they still can use cash donations to help with their care and transport. Any help is greatly appreciated, and will go toward giving these animals a chance at a life they deserve.
You can visit the Mayfield-Graves County Shelter and donate directly through Paypal. Please do what you can, as even $5.00 will help with food and transportation. Please let them know that your money is intended for the rescued pit bulls.

UPDATE: I first heard about this story from Christina Jade, a woman who is an absolute fanatic about animals. She was close to the action, and said that the shelter, indeed, would need to pay to transport the dogs, as most shelters around the midwest are in sorry financial shape. Please help. Thnx! Linda.

thank you so much for posting this. i was down there today, and the staff is absolutely exhausted, but seem to be motivated beyond words. an additional note, anyone willing to help out can also contact the shelter to work out a time to volunteer. these babies need our help and a chance to learn what love is…please help any way you can. thank you
Hey Christina – thank YOU for all your hard work. I appreciate all the attention you’ve drawn to this matter, and for keeping me up-to-date on their condition. I wish I could adopt about five of them, but my cat wouldn’t appreciate it :(
Dog fighting is sick, the law needs to be tighter as i have seen lots of cock fights be raided and the culprets either get away with a warning or are barley fined.
Cheers for the post, we need to be more aware about these events to help tighten the law.

I’ve heard that some public houses in Britain still carry out this abhorrent behaviour for gambling. If this is true is a damned outrage
