One of my pullets laid a double yolker 8th April 2008. Hope she doesn’t lay another for a while, she is only young and is only used to laying small eggs, laying a large egg cannot have been comfortable for her. One of my other hens lays double yolkers occasionally but the difference in size to what she usually lays is not great so she probably doesn’t notice. I would much rather have to crack 2 eggs than wish for a pullet to lay a double yolker.

I had to do a search because I’ve come across 2 double-yolked eggs within the last week. This morning’s double yolker was from a grocery store. The egg last week was from one of my mom’s hens. I’d never heard of such a thing before this!

2 weeks ago I bought a carton of eggs and EVERY SINGLE ONE was double yolked. If anyone has any insight into how that could have happened, I would greatly appreciate it.

We just had a similar experience – 12 out of 27 eggs were double yolked, the first time we’ve ever encountered them. (They were all boiled together for devilled eggs, so we don’t know if those twelve came from the same carton).

I wonder if something is changing in the poultry industry.

There used to be a produce stand near my house and they sold double yolked eggs. It’s the only place I’ve ever seen them! The produce stand closed after a few years and the land is now a used car lot. :(

For the first time I can ever remember, I just made a 2 egg meal, -and both were doubleyolked!
The first one astonished me, but the second right after -convinced me something’s ‘going on’.

New steroids or fertility drugs approved by FDA & sold to the farmers?
    something else?

I bought’em at a local grocery store in upstate NY and they’re from a henhouse just 10 miles away!
    Maybe I’ll give them a call…

I bought my twin girls (age 5) each a chick
about 5 months ago, well one of them started laying eggs last week and so far all of them have been double Yolkers! My mom used to buy them from a farm in California when I was a kid
