I love Web sites that focus on a specific genre of poster. One such site includes an Olympic Poster History page at www.drollthings.com.
The list isn’t long, but the images are fascinating – like the one to the right, where ribbons seem seem to wrap magically around a certain piece of male anatomy. Granted, it was Stockholm, but it was also 1912 – according to the site, “The nudity of the athletes was a reference to the Games of Antiquity, although it was judged as too ‘daring’ by some managers and not distributed in some countries.”
It’s interesting to see how the graphics changed over the years, from 1896 to a current image for the 2008 games in Beijing. Visit the site and enjoy!
